[accordion-item title=”What does a patient need to do to prepare for a sedation appointment?”]A patient with a sedation appointment should not eat or drink anything after midnight before the scheduled sedation appointment day. The patient may take all of their regularly scheduled medications prior to their sedation appointment with a small sip of water or a small amount of clear Jell-O. Medications may not be taken with applesauce, pudding, or a liquid thickening agent. Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding diabetic medications or other medications which may require special attention. The Accessible Dental Services team will contact caregivers in advance of all sedation appointments to review safety protocols and what to expect.
ADS strictly requires that each patient have two responsible adult caregivers with them to take them home after their sedation appointment. For safety reasons, in addition to the driver of the vehicle, the second caregiver is necessary to care for any patients in the vehicle who were sedated. Patients will not be allowed to leave alone or drive themselves home, and patients arriving without two adult caregivers will have their appointment rescheduled. Please also note that contact lenses, jewelry, and nail polish must be removed prior to the patient’s sedation.[/accordion-item]
